Is a lease off if the owner puts a “For Sale” sign up?
Question by MIKE M: Is a lease off if the owner puts a “For Sale” sign up?
We have a lease on a house until Sept ’09. The owner of the house thought that we’d be interested in buying it after it was up. We told him no, and that we were looking elsewhere. He had an agent out days later and put the house up for sale. We never told him we were breaking the lease. We found a house and can close on April 28th. We have paid rent until the end of April. He sold the house (cash deal) to another party who wants in on the 26th. I told him we need til the end of the month to move out and we will give back keys on the 30th. We have a plan to pay rent until Sept if have to (we don’t want to, but can if needed). We were told by a co worker that once he puts a “for sale sign” up that we are no longer obligated for the lease. Is this true? He is saying that if his deal falls through we are stuck til Sept. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

they are not allowed to break the lease without your consent, they just cant kick you out of the house when ever they feel like it, for more info on that go to google in type in whatever state your in and next to it put rental laws: for example New York rental laws, good luck wit everything i hope this helps
