Should I fire the Agent with the Attitude?

Question by akaris18: Should I fire the Agent with the Attitude?
I’ve been working with a real estate agent for several months now, searching for a condo. Found her through a local websearch. She’s a little flakey but all in all, has seemed functional.

She has shown me several condos, two of them about 5 times each. I decided this week to make an offer on one, and when I met her this morning to take a final look at it, she laughed and said, “I’ve been taking so much flack for you!” I asked her to explain herself. She said, “Because you’ve seen the same condo so many times.”

I was immediately offended. Wow, I said, isn’t seeing and re-seeing a condo the buyer’s prerogative? And in this market, shouldn’t you and the seller be happy that I’m here? And frankly, if you’re taking flack, why do I, the buyer need to know about it? She later apologized but the damage was already done.

There have been other things, too. Several weeks ago, when I wanted to see the condo and she couldn’t make it, she said that she would “pay another agent” to show it to me. Did I need to know that she was going to “pay” someone else? She’s told me several times that the sellers weren’t happy with the way we left the condo after looking at it (blinds not drawn, toilet seat left up, etc.). But isn’t she, as the agent, supposed to be make sure all is ok when we leave a condo?

All of this, including this morning’s comments, fall into the “why are you telling me this?” category and I’m really wanting to fire her. Her comments and attitude seem so unprofessional to me and I wonder about her competency. But how much damage can a poor agent do? And is it too late in the game to fire her and get another agent?

I can’t imagine what you’ll gain from visiting the same condo five times… two visits- max- should do it. So yeah- any agent would start making comments at this point. Are you even serious about buying or are you just wasting her time?
